This is generally true. The fat in meat markedly ah its energy (kilojoule) value. Therefore, choosing lean meat is a considerable advantage.

Lean meat contains fat, but it is a different kind of fat. It is not depot fat, but structural fat, being part the membrane of the muscle, fibres. This structural fat can be beneficial to health as it is polyunsaturated with both the 'omega-3' and 'omega-6' kinds of essential fatty acids (see WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT CHOLESTEROL).
