Foods high in sugar cause heart disease

There is no direct evidence for this. Sugars can be in the form of sucrose (white, brown or raw sugar), glucose (dextrose), corn syrup, honey or invert sugar. If our hunger is not satisfied we may overeat, and this may include foods high in sugars. The consumption of more food than we need causes us to become overweight. People who are highly overweight have a greater risk of developing cardiovascular disease, particularly if this is associated with other major risk factors such as a sedentary lifestyle, high blood pressure, smoking and elevated levels of blood cholesterol.
