6.3 Health benefits associated with eating fish

Fish is a rich source of
~ Omega 3 fats
~ Calcium
~ Iodine
~ Phosphorus
~ Coenzyme Q10 (or ubiquinone).

Eating fish has been linked with
~ good mental health
~ less risk of having a fatal heart attack


Additional Information

1. The body can make co-enzyme Q10. This compound helps cells to produce energy, it acts as anti-oxidant and may play a role in cancer protection possibly by stimulating the immune system.

 

2. Omega 3 fats, a type of poly-unsaturated fat found in fish (especially fatty fish), is thought to be one property in fish that makes it particularly healthy.

For instance we know that omega 3 fats:
1. Protect against arrhythmia (abnormal heart beat)
2. Prevent blood platelets (cell fragments) from sticking together
3. Reduce triglycerides (a type of blood fat).
