Masai free from cardiovascular risk factors?

No clinical signs of atheriosclerosis could be found during a four week field survey carried out among 400 Masai men, women and children in 1962 in South Masailand. Although the Masai consumed a diet mainly composed of meat, milk and blood, the men had low levels of serum cholesterol and no evidence for atheriosclerotic heart disease. The hyphothesis that the higher intake of animal fat leads to a higher risk of coronary heart disease was examined in this study. The authors concluded that some overriding protective mechanism was present due to the freedom from emotional stress and the high level of physical exercise.
